It's not about you

Me: “God, I’m angry. I need you to sort my heart out on this.”
God: “It’s not about you.”

It’s not about you.

My shoulders immediately relaxed and my breathing deepened.

It was ok that I was angry. Boundaries had been set, but old emotions were rising due to new circumstances.

It’s not about you.

I didn’t have to control anything. And I could accept that.

I didn’t even have to understand. And I could accept that too.

(Even though we love to understand everything as a form of protecting ourselves from potential hurt!)

It’s not about you.

I don’t like making peace with messy situations.

But what do you do when something you had hoped for and loved was so broken that you knew there was no way you could ever see earthly repair?

Accept that it’s not about you.

Accept that God, in His all-knowing wisdom, chose this interaction to sanctify both you and them.

Accept that God’s redemption will probably look completely different than you ever imagined.

Accept that it’s beyond your ability to repair and let broken things be broken.

Let broken things be broken.
